What Is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive Eating is based on the premise that we are each born with all the wisdom that is necessary to create healthy relationships with food and with our bodies—wisdom that may be buried under years of exposure to cultural and familial values about food, diets, and size.

This revolutionary approach to eating was developed by Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. Since their landmark book (currently in its third edition) was first published in 1995, multiple studies have correlated Intuitive Eating practices with a reduction in disordered eating, an increase in positive body image, and greater emotional functioning.

Coaching Services

Coaching

Coaching will assist you in learning to:

  • Identify problems with dieting and recognize pseudo-dieting behaviors.
  • Identify your personal eating style.
  • Begin to identify the “food rules” you accept without criticism.
  • Rethink the role of movement (or exercise) in your life.
  • Locate additional resources to support the integration of Intuitive Eating principles into your life.

Coaching may consist of:

  • Initial assessment (50 minutes)
  • Coaching sessions (25 minutes) multiple times per week depending on need
  • Daily coaching calls (weekdays only)
  • In-person sessions
  • Tele-coaching sessions (video chat or phone)
  • Walk-and-talk sessions

What to Expect

Coaching sessions will focus on a variety of tasks including reviewing assigned homework and identifying obstacles to integrating the principles of Intuitive Eating into your daily life. You can count on me to be honest and straightforward, asking powerful questions, and using challenging techniques to move you forward.
